Day 19: You thought it was all over…it is now 🤩 one lap of Kipchoge’s Sub 2 Hour Marathon Route 🏃🏻‍♀️

Mission Complete 🙏🏼 For once in this trip, I had a great nights sleep. Perhaps it was due to finally knowing I had actually made it to Vienna. It was probably also to do with the fact that I’m in a lovely hotel and their choice of bed linen is excellent. After a delicious breakfast… Continue reading Day 19: You thought it was all over…it is now 🤩 one lap of Kipchoge’s Sub 2 Hour Marathon Route 🏃🏻‍♀️

Day 18: The final ride, the one we’ve all been waiting for…today we reach Vienna, tomorrow we do the run…Krems 🇦🇹 ➡️ Vienna 🇦🇹 (53 miles) “The best day of my life”

It is no exaggeration to say that today has been the best day of my life. I can say that because I haven’t had a wedding (apparently that’s a pretty awesome day) and I haven’t had children (again, apart from the pain, apparently another great day). I have had some pretty incredible days in my… Continue reading Day 18: The final ride, the one we’ve all been waiting for…today we reach Vienna, tomorrow we do the run…Krems 🇦🇹 ➡️ Vienna 🇦🇹 (53 miles) “The best day of my life”

Day 17: The penultimate day of riding…Linz 🇦🇹 ➡️ Krems 🇦🇹 (87 miles)… “You’re not messing around, are you?”

I’m not a fan of that extra 1ft of elevation... I need to start by addressing the wind situation today. Personally, I don’t think that the wind has been all that kind to me on this trip. To say we’ve had more of a headwind than a tailwind is an understatement. Today, however, we have… Continue reading Day 17: The penultimate day of riding…Linz 🇦🇹 ➡️ Krems 🇦🇹 (87 miles)… “You’re not messing around, are you?”

Day 16: The third and final rest day of the trip in Linz 🇦🇹: an introduction to Kaiserschmarrn…

All credit to Fidelia for introducing me to this I will put you out of your misery right away: the above is Kaiserschmarrn. And yes, it is as good as it looks. A popular Austrian dessert, they describe it as a “fluffy, shredded pancake” and mine came with plum jam too. Delicious. I did not… Continue reading Day 16: The third and final rest day of the trip in Linz 🇦🇹: an introduction to Kaiserschmarrn…

Day 15: One of the most scenic rides of my life as we cross the final border…Passau 🇩🇪 ➡️ Linz 🇦🇹 (66 miles) “A once in a lifetime adventure…”

Austria, baby! After a royally good nights sleep, I was awake at 06:00 and getting ready for the day. The first obstacle was getting ourselves down from on top of our hill. Cue 18% gradient descents. And no, Mum, don’t worry - I walked it. After the downhill of last week, I thought I didn’t… Continue reading Day 15: One of the most scenic rides of my life as we cross the final border…Passau 🇩🇪 ➡️ Linz 🇦🇹 (66 miles) “A once in a lifetime adventure…”

Day 14: The lengths I’ll go to to stay in a castle for the night…Deggendorf 🇩🇪 ➡️ Passau 🇩🇪 (42 miles) “I don’t appreciate 16% gradient hills!”

We had a real leisurely start to the day - 08:00 alarm; who even am I?! I successfully negotiated Bikey out of the building without being seen by the scary German matriarch, and come 08:45, we were back on the road. Today was entirely spent following the bike path to Passau. A very easy ride… Continue reading Day 14: The lengths I’ll go to to stay in a castle for the night…Deggendorf 🇩🇪 ➡️ Passau 🇩🇪 (42 miles) “I don’t appreciate 16% gradient hills!”

Day 13: What a difference a day, a cycle path and ten degrees makes…Regensburg 🇩🇪 ➡️ Deggendorf 🇩🇪 (53 miles) “We’ve reached the Danube, people!”

SO FLAT! I had a lie in until 06:30 this morning as I wanted to make the most of the free breakfast in the hotel. It was the most socially distant, Covid-19 friendly breakfast I have ever seen. Arrows everywhere, a one way system with once chance to fill your pockets, and tables so far… Continue reading Day 13: What a difference a day, a cycle path and ten degrees makes…Regensburg 🇩🇪 ➡️ Deggendorf 🇩🇪 (53 miles) “We’ve reached the Danube, people!”

Day 12: A big day out for us in 35 degree heat…Nürnberg 🇩🇪 ➡️ Regensburg 🇩🇪 (88 miles) “What. A. Day.”

Taking the scenic route 😂 Despite finishing last night with another excellent quiz (thank you James and Jenny), and getting a good nights sleep, I couldn’t get into my stride today. We got the news last night that Austria has been added to the Covid-19 quarantine list - annoying but not unexpected. I had planned… Continue reading Day 12: A big day out for us in 35 degree heat…Nürnberg 🇩🇪 ➡️ Regensburg 🇩🇪 (88 miles) “What. A. Day.”

Day 11: Rest Day 2 in Nürnberg: walking tours with Sergio and a trip out for fro-yo 🇩🇪 “you cycled here on your bike..?!”

King of the castle I feel more tired after my rest day than before. I think it’s one of the oddities about sport and possibly endurance sport in particular; that whilst you’re in it, and doing it, day-in-day-out, you don’t actually feel tired and you could go on forever. That’s how I felt after yesterday’s… Continue reading Day 11: Rest Day 2 in Nürnberg: walking tours with Sergio and a trip out for fro-yo 🇩🇪 “you cycled here on your bike..?!”

Day 10: The hills are alive with the sound of…strudel? Würzburg 🇩🇪 ➡️ Nürenberg 🇩🇪 (73 miles) “Probably the best day of riding so far…”

Another big one in the bag Is it obvious when I said goodbye to the river? 😂 Today was a great day: I overtook an e-bike! On a hill, might I add. And you know what, as I overtook said e-bike I gave the battery a good, hard stare so the the man, no older… Continue reading Day 10: The hills are alive with the sound of…strudel?
